Community Coaching

The Community Coaching Program started in 2010 and continues to provide hockey  opportunities for children between the ages of 6 -12.

We help develop the skills of local school children through 'School based coaching' , 'Holiday H ockey Camps and delivering a 'Primary Schools Hockey League'  each year. Support  has been provided through both England Hockey and also the Premier League 4 Sport via their local agent, Pompey In The Community. however we try and be as self sustained as possible.

The coaching is provided by Havant Hockey Club  and is now managed by Jon Keynes.  Jon  has over 20 years experience teaching and coaching local primary aged children.  To date over 2000 pupils have been coached through our program and we have seen a strong intake of new membership  into  Havant HC, giving more of a commitment to sport and of course, hockey.

In addition we have supporting  young coaches wishing to gain experience and hockey based qualifications within the community program and club.

We run regular before and after schools clubs in local primary schools. Our clubs teach England Hockey Core Skills through a range of fun activities, and give prticularly state school children added opportunity.

Curriculum Coaching

We can support schools by assisting with curriculum time coaching. Havant have developed a six week program to develop lesson delivery step by step in a safe, supportive and exciting way. We leave schools with lesson plans and further ideas with additional England Hockey materials available to support teachers.

Hockey Camps

Vacation Hockey Camps for ages 6-12 years

Hockey Camps

We run holiday Hockey Camps during all school  holiday periods.   Jon oversees and provides the framework for the day. Our young and energetic coaches help to deliver a fun-packed day for all children between the ages of 6-12.

Our days generally run from 10-30 am -3 pm.  The morning work on core shills and fun games,  followed by an afternoon of matches on our fantastic all-weather pitch at Havant College.

We find that many children come along on a regular basis now they know we are here and running regular camps.  Prizes for the ,Most Improved Players and Man of the Match always seem to prove popular.

We provide great opportunity for both beginners and experienced players. We always offer goalkeeper training as well, for those that want to experience the kit and game as a goalie

Many of our young coaches have played hockey to county and regional level and are carefully chosen for their ability to work with youngsters.

Our camps are open to everyone and can be booked online through this website following links to 'Community Camps'

Havant Schools League

Havant Hockey Club  works with the local schools sports co-ordinator Jneny Knight to organise a local Havant and district help arrange schools league in  This usually takes place each year in the Autumn term.

Giving a great opportunity for school children (and their teachers)to play in a friendly competition, its another great chance to play on the Havant College all-weather pitch after school and under floodlights. Children learn so much about team games with a set of hockey rules. There is an opportunity to enter a 'gold' standard and a 'silver' standard league (more for complete beginners). The winners of the gold league go through to the Hampshire Games finals at the Aldershot hockey centre.
