A full squad of 10 for the tournament including James Colley who turned up despite feeling poorly (and sporting a new spiky haircut).
A close first game and a winning start against Fareham with some excellent passing from Ben.
However, against the jolly-tall-blue-giants of Petersfield, we battled hard but ended up losing 1 – 0 despite Milly saving three certain goals with clearances on the line. The travelling MADs (mums and dads) commented that the kids looked tired and in need of half term!
Luckily, the supply of sweets from the on-site tuck shop and a new formation changed everything. Against Trojans, Florence, Alice and Ben formed an excellent defence; Lauren and Serena held their positions on the wings and kept running; and we sneaked a couple of goals on the counter attack to win 2-1. My personal highlight was the teamwork that led to the winning goal scored by Evie.
Against Chichester, we went one goal down as we got confused by one of the opposition wearing a Havant club top! Luckily James Read played fantastically well and all his diving around left him with a grazed and bloody knee. With goals for James Colley and Evie we came back to win 2-1.
Against Fareham’s second team there were goals for James Read and James Colley and Lauren and Milly were back to their best. We played better and better throughout the day and held our formation really well. Thanks to Florence and Lauren for turning out for Portsmouth and Chichester; this is what playing in a team is all about.
Coaching Tip
We were working on remembering our positions and ensuring that in defence we were behind the ball (and with our sticks down to block).
