Havant A 3rd Havant B 7th After torrential rain in the night the sun shone on the Girls U12 John Wright tournament. Havant entered 2 teams and Havant A started brightly with a 3-0 win over Trojans, with a Jessica Bateman hatrick(not a common event!). The B team struggled to an 8-0 defeat by eventual tournament winners Teddington. The two teams met in the second game with the A team winning 3-0. Havant A continued to play well throughout the tournament and dominated all the teams they played against but could not convert enough of their many chances and drew 2 games 0-0 with Teddington and Reading (2nd overall) and managed to lose to Haslemere 2-3 despite Haslemere only having 3 attacks. The B team steadily improved throughout the morning and in the last game managed to shock Haslemere by leading 1-0 until the last few seconds of the match when Haslemere equalised.Their play became more fluent and the goal came from some good passing and a clinical finish involving Naomi and Charlie (although I can't remember who scored!). The defence held out manfully and Pip Cowen in goal (her first ever set of games) was superb. They were roared on by Havant A who snuck into 3rd place ahead of Haslemere due to the B team's draw. Well done to all and thanks to Sarah Sykes for managing the B team, Karen Read for umpiring and Miranda Cowen for helping in the scoring booth. Barry and Karen Locke ran the morning superbly and all the opposition coaches commented on what a good tournament it had been and the good standard of play all round.
