Havant were brought very much down to earth on the first of the two day National Premier Indoor weekend at Fleming Park,
Against Premier League opposition  this was never going to be easy for some of the young Havant side, and so it turned out to be. Whilst their youth gave them speed, it was the experienced opposition which gave them a severe learning curve in the restricted available space of the sports hall.
Because they lived nearest to the venue, Havant were given the first game against the South West London side Surbiton, who currently head the outdoor league, and it soon became obvious standards for the competition were going to be high.
Egyptian international Ezz is Havant's top player, but he does need space in which to operate, to develop his flair, but indoor hockey is a crowded game which cramped his style , although at times  his great ability was obvious.
Havant were 8-2 down by half time, and by the end of the game were 15-3 in arrears.
Havant's scorers were their Captain Andy Richards, Will Cairns and Ezz.
Three hours later Havant faced Reading, and their reputation was produced in play, putting Havant 9-0 down at half time and resulted in  a massive 20-4 defeat.
Their scorers were James Lawson with two, Nathan Palmer and Ezz.
Next day their first of two of their 40 minutes games  saw a two brothers clash with the eldest Faulkner, Simon, in the Loughborough Students team, and the younger Daniel in Havant's line up, with no brotherly love shown.
Again it was defeat for Havant at 7-3, with Havant's scorers being Ezz, Sam Hatherly and Laly.
Havant brought second day's proceedings to a close with their game against  Old Loughtonians,  resulting in a 6-2 score and  a final defeat score of 10-5.
Havant scorers were Ezz, Palmer, two from Aidan Lyndsey-Wood and another from Laly.
Havant have their Annual Christmas party on Friday, but it will take more than the mince pies and mulled wine on offer to rid the minds of the memories and the weekend.
This is just the first phase of the competition, the second coming up in mid January.
