HAVANT MISSED CHANCES

Havant travelled to play  Whitchurch at  Wales National Sport’s centre in Cardiff, showing they were full of confidence following their 2-0 win over table topping Birmingham University.
This was in evidence as Havant pushed relentlessly forward from the start.
Numerous goal scoring chances were missed by all Havant’s forwards, and it became frustrating for the small band of spectators, who had made a long trip west.

Having survived many near misses, Whitchurch grew in confidence and started to penetrate Havant’s defence, but captain Raj Laly, in defence, was in superb form keeping the game still without a goal.

Five minutes before halftime, Havant’s attack, lead by Sunny Singh, was halted, when Whitchurch’s central defender Simon Miles, took a reverse stick shot full in the face, and it was clear he was to take no further part in the game.

After a lengthy break in the game, he was taken to hospital, leaving Whitchurch with just 12 fit players.
This injury appeared to have inspired the welsh side, and they came out for the second half determined not to give way to Havant’s onslaught, which continued unabated, wasting golden opportunities to take the lead.

In the 45th miniute a rare break upfield, resulted in a far post tap in for Adam  Barker on give Whitchurch the lead.
Pressure was now on for Havant to get something from the game they hyad domininated throughout.
Powering forward with Andy Pett, Jon Smedley and Sam Hatherly going close, and a number of penalty corners going close as well as a number of penalty corners breaking down.
A legitimate penatly appeal was also turned down when Ben Mackey cut in from the left, and was 'cleaned out' but Whitchurch goalkeeper Ewan Williams.
In the 67th minute Havant's pressure was rewarded with a deliberate tackle on Andy Pett, and he duly converted the stroke to set up a tense finale, but Whitchurch 'dug in' holding Havant at bay to fin ish the game to finish at 1-1.

This result was very much two points lost, rather than one point gained, and Havant have lost ground on league league leaders Bath, who beat Birmingham 2-0, to go four points clear at the top.
