HAVANT BEATEN BY EARLY BATH

Goals in the 10th, 13th and 15th minutes, found out Havant's inability to defend first half play
Team Bath 4 – 2 Havant

On the hottest day of the year Havant set out to beat Team Bath Buccaneers for the first time in 5 meetings since returning to the Western Conference and once again they gifted Bath goals early on to make their task even more difficult.
Over the first ten minutes both teams appeared quite comfortable containing the oppositions attacks, but in the 10th minute Havant failed to clear a ball within their defensive D and under no pressure Goal Keeper Andy Isaacs kicked the ball onto Jamie Askam’s foot to give Bath a penalty corner, which was well saved by Isaacs.
This was followed by another two corners in quick succession and finally on the 4th corner a far post pass was deflected in by George Ferrant to open the scoring for Bath.
Not 3 minutes had passed before James Lester in the Havant defence attempted a pass across the top of the D, which was intercepted by Havant old boy Tim Davenport, who calmly slotted it past Isaacs to make the score 2-0.
Bath were now playing with a lot of confidence and another penalty corner followed in the 15th minute, which Isaacs was unable to keep out allowing Rufus Mcgnaught-Barrington to send Bath into the half time with a three goal lead and a mountain for Havant to climb.
After some stern words during the half time break Havant came out meaning business but as they pushed forward they allowed Tim Davenport in to score his second from a near post flick to make the score 4-0.
Not downhearted Havant continued to press forward and before long  Havant’s  ‘Man of the Match’ Andy Pett made a determined run into the Bath D to win a Penalty Stroke, which he calmly converted to give Havant hope of a remarkable comeback.
Continual pressure was rewarded when Dan Faulkner scored a fine goal – was the comeback possible?  Despite a series of penalty corners won by Havant’s continual pressure they failed to convert any of the 6 corners won in the final 10 minutes, and the final whistle was met with some relief by the Bath coaching staff.
For Havant it was a case of if only they hadn’t given away such easy goals in the first 15 minutes the result could well have been a lot different. They must learn quickly if they are going to make the end of season Play Offs.
