11/03/17 : Ladies 1 vs Buckingham
Home - Havant College
Won 5 - 1
This was a great team performance from Havant ladies 1st team
We may not have been as technically proficient “man for man” but we were more determined and worked harder, and that produced the three points, which were desperately required.
Buckingham started the stronger and in the first ten minutes pushing Havant back deep in defence. Havant did settle down and started to penetrate the Buckingham back line, and it was from one of these forays that Havant took the lead in the twelve minute. Georgie Poole was the first to react to a rebound of the keepers pads to tuck the ball into the goal. Three minutes later Havant shot wide of the Buckingham goal. Havant were now holding the territorial advantage resulting in Havant’s first penalty corner, which came in the 21st minute. On the fourth retake Havant went two goals up after Rea Alan forced the ball home from a rebound.
Buckingham continued to look dangerous and did penetrate the Havant defence, but some resolute defending denied the visitors getting back into the game. In the 30th minute Havant were three goals in front after Sophie Forest found the net. Three minutes later Havant should have scored their fourth, as a centre across the Buckingham goal only needed a touch from a Havant forward, but alas this did not happen, and Havant went into the half time break 3-0 up.
Three minutes into the second half Havant won their 5th penalty corner, which came to nothing, but from their second penalty corner of the half five minutes later they were four goals in front after Yas Lewis slapped the ball high into the Buckingham net.
Buckingham continued to create opportunities with the best chance a shot in the 44th minute which flashed past the wrong side of the Havant post. Buckingham did pull a goal back in the 49th minute from their first penalty corner of the game, but Havant rounded of a first class performance in the 60th minute when Isy Parry completed the scoring. With two minutes remaining Buckingham won a penalty corner which was well saved, but resulted in a re-take, which saw a shot go wide.
This win and a draw for Oxford leaves Havant, Oxford and Buckingham locked together on eleven points and all to play for.
