Havant started well against Firebrands and pressed their defence from the first whistle. But it was Firebrands who won the 1st penalty corner of the match, after a quick breakaway. However the shot did not trouble the Havant goal as it was wide of the target.
Havant then took control of the game with Mike Deller-Merricks giving Havant the lead after some great build up play by Maciej Janiszewski and Tomek Bruml. However the home side did not roll over and were soon back on level terms after some sloppy play by Havant. A turnover in midfield was punished with an unmarked Firebrands forward slotting the ball past debutant Robin Toulalan Parr in the Havant goal.
Firebrands kept up the pressure on Havant who seemed to lose concentration, and Robin Toulalan Parr made some good saves from the Firebrands forwards.
Another Havant debutant Tom Croft-Baker then linked well with Bradley Lock, but his effort on goal was just wide of the Firebrands goal.
Bradley then turned provider for Maciej Janiszewski, but again Havant’s effort did not trouble Firebrands goal. The half finished all square but it was again Havant who started the 2nd half the brighter of the two teams. Some reminders and tactical changes from skipper Raj Laly and coach Ady Adams seemed to do the trick and Havant were soon dominating the play.
Within two minutes of the restart Havant won their 1st penalty corner of the game with Adam Bloomfield finding a defenders foot after some more good play by Tomek Bruml.
Toseeq’s flick hit the post but Man of the Match Ethan Hoddle was on hand to slot the ball home. Havant were now in control of the game and brothers Davis and Connor Taylor-Bargent worked well together to create a number of good chances.
Further attacks led to chances for Tomek Bruml and Craig Duffy, but the Firebrands goalkeeper kept them in the game.
Havant increased their lead soon after with another penalty corner strike. Bradley Lock winning the teams 2nd penalty corner and this time it was converted by Toseeq to make the score 3-1.
Havant kept pushing forward, with a much improved display in the second half. However it was Firebrands who scored next with a well taken goal following a turnover in the midfield.
The next round of the cup will be played on Sunday 3rd December with the draw being made later this week.
