Great Team Performance for U14 Girls

A nail-biting finish to our last game of our season!

With our last three games cancelled it has been a long time since the team have had a match, and so on a sunny April day fourteen U14 girls were keen to play Winchester.

The game started well but with Winchester dominating the possession and the Havant girls struggling to push out of their half and within 12 Minutes Winchester were 1-0 up. but this is where the Havant girls turned the game around and started to fight for the ball, play some hockey and put the pressure back on the Winchester defence. Nonetheless at the end of the first 20 Winchester were 1- up.

In the second 20, the game ebbed and flowed but Havant pulled a goal back with a good conversion by Megan picking up an Elsa pass, But Winchester fought back, Their first goal being from a through ball to a Winchester forward who only had Scarlett to beat, and the second from a kick save after a Winchester break. Havant though kept in the game with another goal from Megan to end the 2nd 20-minute session 3-2 to Winchester

In the final 20 with all to play for, Glyn re-organised the team and within 5 Minutes Megan converted another Elsa pass for goal 4. Winchester retaliated and with a break pushed the ball past the Havant defenders to the forward to pick up another one on one goal!

Now 4-2 to Winchester the game could have easily been over, but Havant girls dug deep and worked hard, the defenders harried the Winchester forwards and the midfield and forwards ran their hearts out, this resulted in another 2 goals for Megan, including one that was a post ricochet from an Elsa shot.

With 3 minutes left the Havant girls piled the pressure on the Winchester goal and with the final shot squeezing past the post and seeing the full time whistle blow.

A great team performance today with all the girls playing well and Megan ending the season on a high with 4 goals.

Thank you to Pete for umpiring and Glyn for coaching

See you all next year
