23/03/19 : Mens 6 vs City of Portsmouth 3

Away - University of Portsmouth

Friendly

Drew 0 - 0

The 6s managed to put out a decent side (although lacking our Captain) for a hastily arranged friendly with City of Portsmouth 3. The match somewhat encapsulated our season with a 0-0 result and a MoM performance from our keeper (thanks Will Parker).

It was great to see 3 family combinations on the pitch:

  • The Walton’s were back with Alan, playing his second match of the day, resolute in defence, and Matt show an extensive array of passes and a lot of hard graft outfield.
  • The Watson boys (Luke and Sam) played very well again showing a considerable amount of skill and a growing robustness against somewhat larger opposition.
  • Peter Creed (no relation of Apollo apparently) showing great commitment as ever and his son Troy who is new to hockey put in his best performance of the season.

The rest of us did what we do, but couldn't unlock the CoP defence.  Frustratingly both Callum and Ed had chances to secure the 6s golden stick which will now be shared in a three-way tie of 3 goals each with JG.

Thanks to Alex Rennie for umpiring and to everyone for their contribution.

Michelle Waktare summed it up perfectly with “It was a very energetic 0-0 draw….!”
