12/01/20 : Boys Under 16 vs WL - Poole

Away - Ashdown Leisure Centre

Won 2 - 1

A young U16 side get a good win away to Poole

With only one year 11 from the U16 squad having been organised enough with their mock GCSE revision! Havant took a young team down to play Poole on a particularly slippy pitch! Havant started well, getting into Poole’s d pretty quickly and winning a penalty corner. Although our injector was sent to the half way line for an infringement we made the most of the opportunity, winning another penalty corner, from which Joe Price scored. We were ahead!

The first half was very open with lots on opportunities for both sides, play zipping from end to end, and it honestly could have gone either way. There was a lot of nervy play. Jonny Pratt made some great saves but a nice bit of play from Poole resulted in them scoring the equaliser. Half time then found us level at 1-1. The team talk at half time saw Alex Leach reminding the boys to do the simple things well; use the width to get around the opppsition instead of taking the ball into conflict; and to take a bit more control of the game, taking time to make good passes instead of rushing into il thought out situations. The boys really took this on board and the second half really was Havants. A penalty corner early in the second half was nicely worked with Gabe Carvalho flicking the ball through the keeper's legs into the back of the net! 2-1 to Havant!

In fact Havant were unlucky not to score more as they really began to dominate Poole. With the exception of a short spell towards the end when everyone was getting tired, Havant kept a really good structure and managed the second half well. A great performance from all, and mention should be made to all 3 U14 boys who had already played a cup match against Winchester in the morning; good performances from Sam Watson and Ben miles and with man of the match nominations for Finn de Trafford, Luke Watson, Dougie Henderson and Gabe Carvalho (U14)  its easy to see that this squad is just getting better and better.

MOM Jonny Pratt for a strong performance in goal, managing penalty corners well.
