10/10/20 : Ladies 1 vs Winchester

Away - King's School

Won 5 - 1

Amazing game for the ladies 1s, 4 0 up at half time! Lovely to see you rocking the away kit!!

The Ladies 1st XI christened their new away kit with a sparkling four goal first half performance. The team moved the ball around quickly, with plenty of one touch passes, made possible by strong running off the ball. On paper this had looked a difficult away fixture, but Winchester were never allowed to settle on the ball, with their players under constant pressure.

After a first short corner routine broke down, Havant made no mistake with their second. Cat Evans played the ball square, took the return and calmly lifted it over the keeper. Minutes later and Havant had a second. Alice Worsley nicked the ball just inside the Winchester half, drove at the defence and slipped the ball to Poppy Herbert. Poppy still had plenty to do, but she pivoted past the keeper at the top of the circle and slipped the ball past the defenders on the line.

By now it was all Havant and the next two goals were reward for some intensive focus at midweek training. Both came from slap hits into the circle. First Cat Evans made a run across the face of the goal, trapped the ball and found Alice Worsley on the far post for tap in. Just before half time a similar ball was deflected in by Poppy Herbert.

Havant couldn’t maintain the intensity in the second half and a series of sloppy passes led to loss of possession. Fortunately central defenders Louisa Taylor and Alice Lane were on hand to cut short any threats on the Havant goal. One mistake too many did eventually led to a consolation goal for the home team ten minutes from the end. Havant weren’t finished though. Player of the match, Verena Grave had been a constant threat all afternoon and she capped off a fine performance with a mazy dribble and finish. Attached is a photo of our ladies in their new away shirts.
