On a bitterly cold day Havant won three points but it came at a high cost after Craig Duffy’s season was ended prematurely with a split and possibly broken finger.
The first half was an even affair with both teams mounting good attacks, but neither able to capitalise. Both teams won three penalty corners and the only difference being that Havant won a penalty stroke from one of their corners in the 14th minute. A switch from the top resulted in a good deflection which hit a defender on the line. Maciej Janiszewski stepped up to convert the opportunity to give Havant a 1-0 lead at half time.
Isca won two early penalty corners in the second half and they were back on level terms from their 5th penalty corner in the 42nd minute. A near perfect drag flick hit high up on the inside of the post giving Bristow in the Havant goal no chance.
Adam Bloomfield restored Havant’s lead in the 47th minute from Havant’s 4th penalty corner. Another well worked corner found Bloomfield unmarked in front of the Isca keeper and he neatly deflected the ball into the visitors goal. Both teams played end to end hockey and both created good chances. With five minutes remaining on the clock Craig Duffy left the pitch with a nasty hand injury and Chris Bristow received a green card for making comment. With no keeper and Sam Hatherley playing kicking back Isca sensed they had two minutes to punish Havant. They could not do this and it was Havant who went further ahead in the 69th minute after Maciej created a fortuitous turnover which led to Havant’s third goal.
