We knew today’s game was going to test us in terms of skill and endurance with a lean team of eleven players, the margin for error was slim.
The first fifteen minutes gave both sides opportunities to take the lead. Trojans had their chances with two short corners, both of which we successfully defended. Thankfully the emphasis of play moved to the other end of the pitch. A quick pass across the D from Sophie to Nicky, gave Nicky the opportunity to score her first goal of the season, taking us to a 1-0 lead.
Unfortunately the first aid kit was also needed. Our lovely Bea, never one to shy away from a tackle, ended up with a ball hitting her in the face and a twisted ankle.Understandably Bea took the last few minutes of the first halfout, which left us with ten players on the pitch. A quick bit ofthinking was needed to rejig the formation.
The second half saw some fast moving hockey, with both sides eager to maximise their opportunities. Goalie Sophie’s quick thinking and Lee’s ball sweeping ability kept the score line in our favour.
In a game where each player gave 150% choosing the player of the match was a difficult one, but Bea narrowly pipped Goalie Sophie to take the title. Spoons is wearing the donkey rosette this week, for some unsavoury behaviour.
A great second win for the Fab Fives.
