Havant unable to get on the score sheet no matter how hard they tried

Brighton & Hove Men’s 1s  2  -  0  Havant Men’s 1s
Havant’s season got a bit more difficult today with a fourth loss in as many games. The game against Brighton & Hove looked to be a tight one, and so it proved, with Havant unable to get on the score sheet no matter how hard they tried.

Brighton & Hove started the game better, and Havant need to improve their preparation as this seems to be a recurring theme in recent weeks. The scores remained level through the first quarter and whilst Havant appeared to have good possession they could not create any clear opportunities.

Then midway through the second quarter, Brighton & Hove took the lead in the 24th minute. They won possession at the Havant 25 yard line and Jack Jones drifted into the circle and lifted his shot past Maciej Pacanowski in the Havant goal. Havant continued to have good possession and the midfield three of James Morris, Craig Duffy and Maciej Janiszewski were becoming more influential, but Brighton & Hove held their lead into the half time break.

Havant came out in the second half determined to get back on level terms, and pushed hard for the equaliser. Bradley Lock and Ollie Jameson linking well but again Brighton & Hove held firm.

Then in the 47th minute Brighton & Hove doubled their lead, after a misplaced pass out of defence was intercepted and Brighton & Hove countered. The initial shot at goal was well saved by Maciej Pacanowski, but he could not do anything to save the second shot by Ali Higginson off the rebound.

In the last quarter Havant finally created some good chances. Maciej Janiszewski fed Miguel Rodrigues on the baseline and his pass to Bradley Lock on the penalty spot was deflected off the line by a Brighton & Hove defender. Another cross just eluded Miguel’s stick on the fast post. It was not going to be Havant’s day.

Jamie Rawlings had a penalty corner strike deflected over the bar and James Speke had another opportunity that went just wide of the goal. Havant continued to push and Brighton & Hove soaked up the pressure and held on for the victory.

Havant must now re-group and get themselves ready for a tough game next Saturday where the visitors to Havant will be Teddington.
