Havant Hockey Club offers several ways to play, ranging from competitive National League hockey to social hockey and “Back to Hockey” sessions for beginners or those returning to the sport. The club has its own artificial playing surface, based at Havant College, and caters to various ages and skill levels, including men’s, women’s, and junior sections.

Here are the specific ways to play:

Senior Competitive (Men & Women):

  • Women’s Section: Features 5 teams, offering options from competitive league and cup hockey to more gently paced social games.
  • Mens Section: Features 7 teams, offering EH National League hockey in our 1st XI, with other Men’s teams playing in regional leagues, cup and social fixtures.
  • Masters Hockey (Veterans): Offers competitive, slightly slower-paced hockey for players over the age of 40. This includes “The Bees” (over 40s) and “The Cavaliers” (over 50s).

Beginner & Returning Player Programs:

  • Back to Hockey: Free, informal, social sessions designed for beginners or those returning to the game, with everything you need to participate in a session provided by the club.

Junior & Youth Hockey:

Havant Hockey Club’s Junior section follows the England Hockey junior framework, with training and matches for those aged 6-18.  We also have the opportunity for older juniors to develop coaching skills and use their skills to help progress their Duke of Edinburgh award scheme or Sports Leadership certifications.  The club is an accredited England Hockey Talent Centre and has been awarded a Talent Acadamy licence for the past several years – firmly cementing ourselves as the leading provider of junior hockey in the region.

  • Community Hockey: (6-10yrs old) The club has an outreach Community Programme, delivering in-curriculum and after/before-school clubs at several schools in the area. These sessions are funded by generous donators and remove the financial barriers of entry to our sport.
  • Minis (6-10yrs old): Sunday morning training at our pitch, with regular friendly tournaments around the area.
  • Junior Hockey (12-18yrs old): Weekly Training sessions led by qualified coaches, with league, cup and friendly matches typically played on a Sunday.
  • Development/Performance: Specific coaching, such as Summer Performance Workshops, for players looking to advance to 1XI or Talent Academy levels.
  • Holiday Camps: Held at Havant College during all school holidays for ages 5-13 and 14-16.

Removing Financial Barriers to Sport

Havant Hockey Club runs a strong community outreach programme designed to make hockey accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. With the generous support of our donors and sponsors, we provide funded and subsidised opportunities across both youth and senior sections.

Support is available through a range of options, including subsidies, grants, flexible payment plans and deferred payments. This assistance can help cover membership subscriptions as well as essential playing equipment such as hockey sticks, training shoes and playing kit.

The Club also introduced Free Playing Membership for full-time university students. This recognises that many players already pay membership fees to their university teams, and an additional club subscription can prevent them from taking part in weekend hockey. Free full-time university student membership also applies to Havant players who have moved away from home for their studies, enabling them to remain members of the club during their time at university.

We are committed to ensuring that cost is never a barrier to enjoying hockey. All requests for support are treated sensitively and in the strictest confidence. If you would like to explore the options available, please speak privately with your relevant section lead.

How to get involved:

Typically the best way to get involved is to join one of our regular training sessions to meet the coaches and players, and when you’re comfortable, to get involved in the various teams we have. Training for adults and juniors takes place at Havant College on weekdays, details of our training sessions and who to contact are available here.

For more information, you can contact the club through our website, or email hockey@havanthockeyclub.org.uk to learn more about getting involved in the sport we love.
